Welcome to the British Virgin Islands

updated - March 20, 2012

British Virgin Islands include the major islands of Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada and Jost Van Dyke. They lie just east of the US Virgin Islands and are similar in geologic composition - originating from volcanic activity.

Less developed and traveled as their American counterparts (US Virgin Islands), the British Virgin Islands (BVI) have an appeal for those looking for a more relaxed feel. Indeed, it's fair to say that the BVIs are among the most pristine and unspoiled islands within the Caribbean.

In addition to the major islands of the BVI, there are a number of smaller islands, many privately owned or the exclusive enclave of a resort property.

The British Virgin Islands

With some see-sawing of control during the early colonial period between the Spanish, Dutch and English, the British Virgin Islands have remained a steadfast territory of the British since 1628.

The Islands

With the BVI Government leading the way to preserve much of this archepeligo in it's original state that, dispite the inflows of more and more travelers, the BVIs offer visitors some of the most enchanting and pristine sights in all of the Caribbean.

Tortola Island
As the largest of the British Virgin Islands, it serves as the capital and primary International entry point. Mkae sure to visit the historic sights of Plantation days of yore and the 92 acre Sage Mountain National Park with the highest peak in the Virgin Islands chain at over 1,700 feet.

Virgin Gorda Island
The Spanish translation to "Fat Virgin" roughly describes the widening of the islands central portion. At ten miles long, most of the coastal areas are decorated with beautiful beaches and smooth rock formations.
